Women are misrepresented every day, all the time, in all parts of the world. One question to help explain why this happens is what role does social media, news outlets, and film/photography play in the representation of feminism and how does that representation affect feminism? Another question is how are Native American women, Hispanic/Latina women, and Black women represented within the United States’ popular culture?

To answer these questions, we must first recognize that a person’s identity can show a lot about who they are. An identity tells you how a person decides how they are represented. This can be in terms of race, sexuality, or religion. Within feminism, representation matters. It allows more people to be seen and show that there is no one standard feminist. In terms of representation, it is important to have multiple forms, this way people are able to “see” themselves. We chose to focus on representation for our topic, because we believe representation matters. By focusing on representation, it allows society to see people in a different light. In addition to this, it diversifies the people and voices that are being heard.
